The stratum subsidence has brought a considerable impact on the natural ecological environment and the quality of human life. The disasters caused by it are as follows：

(1) The groundwater storage capacity decreases. Stratum compaction occurs, its thickness decreases and porosity decreases, and the amount of groundwater that can be conserved also decreases correspondingly, causing the groundwater resources in subsidence areas to be easily depleted.

(2) The low-lying terrain is prone to flooding and the flooded stratum subsidence area is low-lying because of the accumulation of historical subsidence, which changes the original drainage slope and causes drainage difficulties. In coastal areas, due to the low terrain, the ground is lower than the sea level, and the seawalls are lowered due to the elevation of the tops of the levees, and the degree of protection is reduced, which sometimes causes seawater intrusion.

(3) Damage to buildings, engineering structures, and life-sustaining system facilities. The drop in groundwater level leads to an increase in the effective stress of the ground and compaction. The ground structures or bridge piers, abutments, etc., are damaged due to the increase in subsidence rate, and the maintenance of tap water, gas pipelines, etc. Sanitary pipelines and sewers leaked due to bending damage.

(4) The transformation of the environment and ecology is affected by the low-lying terrain in the subsidence area. Due to the long-term accumulation of water, part of the land has gradually developed into a wetland type.
